Jurisprudence Course

You are required to successfully complete a course in jurisprudence set or approved by the College. For this purpose, you must complete the CMRTO Legislation Learning Package and review the appropriate statutes, regulations, policies and guidelines which relate to the practice of medical radiation technology generally and to the specialty for which you are applying.

You are required to review the documents and legislation described in items 1 and 2 below. Click on the links below to access the relevant documents and legislation. Once you have completed your review of the documents and legislation, click on number 3 below to access the Certificate of Completion. You are required to print, complete, sign and date this certificate and submit the signed certificate with your completed Application Form.

  1. Review the CMRTO Legislation Learning Package
  2. Review the Legislation, Policies and Guidelines applicable to the specialty for which you are applying:

    Note: The legislation, policies and guidelines set out below are applicable to all specialties (Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy and Magnetic Resonance) unless otherwise indicated:

    - Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and Regulations


    - Medical Radiation Technology Act, 1991 and Regulations


    - Health Care Consent Act
    - CMRTO Sexual Abuse Prevention Program
    - Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act and Regulations (not applicable to Magnetic Resonance)


    - Nuclear Safety and Control Act and Regulations (not applicable to Radiography or Magnetic Resonance)
  3. Complete the Certificate of Completion of the course in jurisprudence set or approved by the College.

    Please print, complete, sign and date the Certificate of Completion and submit the signed certificate with your completed Application for Registration or Application for Reinstatement to the College.

    Please note that, if you are an applicant who completed a program in a specialty of medical radiation technology outside of Canada, you may complete this requirement after the Registration Committee has assessed your educational program(s) and experience in medical radiation technology.
