Ontario Graduates

If you are currently enrolled in a program in medical radiation technology in a college or university in Ontario, you will receive an application for registration with the College from the Director of your program towards the end of your program. You are required to complete the application and to submit it to the College with the application fee of $105.00 at least 90 days before you write the CAMRT examination.

Following are the steps required for registration for Ontario graduates:
  1. Complete the CMRTO application form
Carefully read and complete both Parts A and B of the form except in the areas indicated for the use of the training institution and administration

  2. Submit Part A of the application to the College
Have Part A signed by your program director and submit it to the College, along with the application fee of $105.00 ($100.00 fee and $5.00 GST) and proof of Canadian citizenship or other appropriate documentation, at least 90 days before you write the CAMRT examination. The College will confirm your application status and provide you with a receipt

  3. Give Part B to your program director
Your program director will sign Part B and submit it to the College at the end of your program. This will provide confirmation that you have successfully completed your educational program

  4. Write the CAMRT examination

  5. Provide evidence to the College that you have passed the CAMRT examination
The CAMRT sends a list of the successful candidates to the College, however, you will receive your results prior to the College receiving the list. If you are ready to start work immediately, you should fax a copy of the signed letter from the CAMRT (not a copy of an email) confirming that you have passed the exam to the College and call the College to make arrangements for completing the registration process. If you do not contact the College immediately after receiving your exam results, the College will send you a letter outlining the final steps for registration after receipt of confirmation that you passed the exam

  6. Complete the Application Information Update form and
    pay the registration fee

When you have met all the requirements for registration, the College will provide you with the Application Information Update form to complete and let you know the amount of the registration fee. The annual fee is $378.00 ($360.00 fee, $18.00 GST) but the initial fee is prorated from the date you become registered to your birthday. The College does not accept payment by credit card. You must pay by cheque, money order, or cash if you are coming to the office in person (correct change greatly appreciated!)

  7. Receive confirmation from the College that you are registered
The College will provide you with a certificate of registration and a registration number. You or your employer can confirm your registration status over the phone. The College will also mail to you a new member package which includes information about the College and the Quality Assurance program

  8. Start working!
Once you are registered with the College you are legally authorized to practise the profession in Ontario and can use the protected title appropriate to your specialty - M.R.T.(R.), M.R.T.(T.), M.R.T.(N.), or M.R.T.(M.R.)
In between completing your educational program and becoming registered with the College, you are no longer legally authorized to apply ionizing radiation to patients in Ontario, nor are you authorized to perform any of the controlled acts authorized to MRTs - even under the supervision of a member of the CMRTO. Until you are a member of the CMRTO, you are not able to hold yourself out as a person who is qualified to practise as a medical radiation technologist in Ontario.

If you have any questions regarding your registration, contact the Registration Coordinator at the College.
