Continuous Learning Portfolio

Overview | Points to Remember | Types of Activities | Completing a Portfolio

Having completed your Self-Assessment Summary Sheet, you are now ready to start working on your Continuous Learning Portfolio.

Note that you are required to complete a minimum of 25 hours per year of continuous learning activities, in order to show commitment to the College’s QA program. Evidence of completion of this requirement may be requested by the CMRTO at any time. One of the criteria the QA committee will use to assess whether your Continuous Learning Portfolio is satisfactory is whether you can demonstrate that you have completed a minimum of 25 hours per year of continuous learning activities.

Points to Remember
  • Since evidence of completing a minimum of 25 hours per year of continuous learning activities may be requested by the College at any time, it is important that you keep the information and records included in your Continuous Learning Portfolio up to date
  • Your portfolio should not include confidential information that you may not want accessible to others without your permission
  • Do not include in your portfolio any information that may identify your patients (e.g. names, OHIP numbers)
  • Keep in mind that your choice of continuous learning activities must support your job as an MRT. However, each individual MRT’s learning needs will be very different due to the large variety of practice settings (e.g. the learning needs of a clinical MRT will be different from a company applications specialist or a clinical instructor)
  • Always document your learning activity on a College form as it is stated in subsection 10(6) of Ontario Regulation 545/94, as amended, made under the Medical Radiation Technology Act, 1991: “The quality assurance records shall be in the form provided by the College.”
  • Since continuous learning contributes to professional competence and better job performance, always record how this learning activity helps you on the job
  • By members engaging in continuous learning activities that relate to the practice of the profession, the public is assured of the maintenance and improvement of MRTs’ competence over time
  • Learning goals may change as new learning needs are identified, but remember that learning activities must relate to your learning goals
