QA Committee and Others
The principal role of the QA Committee is to administer the College’s QA program. The goal of the QA program is to assure the public of the quality of practice of medical radiation technology by maintaining members’ performance at a level consistent with the profession’s Standards of Practice and by promoting continuing competence among members. The QA Committee may also make referrals to the Executive Committee and receive referrals from other parts of the College such as the Complaints Committee as discussed below.
What Is The Relationship Of The QA Committee To Other Committees And Processes?
Renewal of registration:
The Certificate of Competence (Quality Assurance Declaration) is submitted to the College at the same time as the payment of the annual fee. The Registrar will note on the register that the member has submitted this information.
Executive Committee:
If the QA Committee believes that a member has committed an act of professional misconduct, or may be incompetent or incapacitated, it may refer the member’s name and the allegations to the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee would then decide whether to refer the allegations to the Discipline Committee for professional misconduct or incompetence proceedings, or to the Fitness to Practise Committee for fitness to practise proceedings.
Discipline Committee:
The following will be grounds for a ruling of professional misconduct:
- Failing to cooperate with the QA Committee or with any assessor it appoints
- Failing to carry out any requirement or order of the QA Committee
- Refusing to carry out any remedial activity required by the QA Committee
- Failing to complete any remedial activity required by the QA Committee within the appropriate time period
Complaints Committee:
The Complaints Committee (and the Executive Committee) can refer to the QA Committee a possible act of sexual abuse of a patient by a member which falls in the category of behaviour or remarks of a sexual nature. If such a referral is made, the QA Committee will, subject to certain conditions, have the authority to require the member to undergo a psychological or other assessment and require the member to undertake education, therapy or counselling.
